Faux Vintage Picture Obsession. A Treatise in Apps.

So I discovered an app recently called Pixlromatic and Hipstamatic.  These apps are designed to turn the pictures you take using modern cameras into pictures that look like they were taken by older cameras.  Get it? I can't stop using these apps and I'm sure the people on my Facebook have gotten sick of it.  So what do I do now?  Oh yeah, vomit them onto this blog!

I really like Hipstamatic though.  You actually take pictures with this app and it gives you a wide range of film types, flashes and other cool shit.    Also, its great cuz you can buy more film and flashes or you can wait till they give them out for free.  Not sure how often the latter happens, but I've been given a free flash/film before. As you can see from the examples, its pretty fun to mess around with.

The last three were all done with the random option.  Just to give you an idea of the capabilities of this app.

Pixlromatic does the same thing, except with existing photos.  You can take pics within the app, but it doesn't quite execute like Hipstamatic.  Its great for when you take regular photos that end up looking like they could be from the 70's.  Old part of town, some hipsters and some bums and bam!  You're in the 70's all over again.  Of course a couple examples from Pixlromatic are in order as well:

That's about it.  Hipstamatic was $.99 when I bought it.  Like I said before, they charge for new film and flashes and camera bodies but sometimes give them out for free.  Pixlromatic is free from Adobe.  With that said, this shall conclude my narcissistic exercise with a couple app reviews buried inside.
